Word Art App – create great looking word art
Word Art App
Hello and welcome to wordartprints website. In this post, I’m going to document what exactly Word Art App is about or rather what it will be about and how I aim to produce the number one place for Word Art! I know that is a big claim but that is what I plan to do.
I’m doing this to document exactly how I started this site and why. It is really just for people who have found this website and wondering what is all about and what the plans are for the future.
My background
My name is Richard Thomas and I’m from the UK and I’ve been working online for 14 years fulltime as first an affiliate marketer and more recently producing my own products. I’ve created a number of products that have been reasonably successful. For the past 2 years, I have been concentrating on design and art prints as they are my real passion.
What is this website about?
As you have probably guessed from the name this website does exactly what it says on the tin – it is going to produce word art prints. Anyone that doesn’t know what a word art print is I have included a couple of examples below.
The word art app I’m having created is slightly different to anything out there. To be honest there isn’t a great amount of competition I can only find one site that does anything remotely similar.
I’m having this app created as there is a need for something simple that will produce these prints. In the past, I have produced and sold these prints in a number of different ways. A couple of which took an age and were boring as hell to do. The new way this will work (hopefully) is anyone can produce these prints in seconds and have it sent off to the printers and delivered directly to their door.
They will be less expensive for the customer and will have stack more choice as I intend to produce hundreds if not thousands of word art templates. Just about any subject can be turned in to a word art print.
Competition for Word Art App
As I mentioned before there is one site that does something similar and to be honest I’m a great fan of the site – the website is called wordart. There are a couple of things however I don’t like about it and feel can be improved.
I think it is aimed more at the hobbyist or for people that produce these prints on a commercial basis. Also, they don’t have a great selection of templates and you can’t easily get the print printed and framed.
I felt it could be improved and would appeal to a wider section of people. Folk that needs a last minute present that will have the wow factor. The personalized market in the UK is massive. I heard a figure recently that 26 million personalized items were sent in the UK alone last year. I have no idea if that figure is accurate but if it is it shows you the size of the market. That includes a huge range of different items but there is a huge demand for these type of prints.
Outline of Word Art app
As I think I mentioned before I’m in the process of having the Word App developed. I hope to have a version of it in the next 14 days and hopefully, the site can be up and running before Christmas 2018.
That may be an unrealistic target but one I’m aiming for and would be great to get the site out to the public before the deadline and maybe pick up one or two pre-Christmas sales. It would be great to start to claw back some of my outlay I have put into this product. I won’t give you the total but safe to say it is four figures already and I’ve just started out.
The programmer has the wire frame and for anyone interested I have included one of the images the programmer is working from below. As you can see it is a very basic drawing but hopefully it will give you an idea of how this is going to work.
To explain exactly what everything is the image in the middle is the part of the artwork that will be covered in words. The user inputs names, dates etc on the right of the image and can preview how it will look in seconds. (that’s the theory anyway)
Once they are happy they can either download the image or have it printed and framed and sent to them.
Word Art App templates
One of the strengths of this site is going to be the MASSIVE selection of templates. I want to have 300-400 at least when I launch and quickly aim to have thousands of different designs.
I know from past experience that simple designs work the best. Below is just a small an idea of how the templates will look. I have actually used ones similar before and have sold many different versions of the ones below.
There are loads of silhouettes like these on the internet. One thing I’m always careful of is I don’t use these templates as I find them and always just use them for inspiration as think the copyright issue may be a bit of a grey area. Although it could be argued the final output is so much different there is nothing to worry about I don’t want to take that chance.
So what is the cost of Word Art App?
So what do I aim to charge for this new word art app?
The prices are not set in stone but I have created a table below to show what I aim to charge which comparisons to other sites services that offer something similar. Also, I will be providing plenty of coupons for people to get the prints at a reduced price.
Method | Cost |
---|---|
Wordart.com | $29 a month |
Etsy word art prints | $25 average |
Wordartprints | $10 average |
The prices above don’t include shipping but I will be roughly charging the same that I charge for the prints I sell at the moment. That is three pounds fifty for the UK and nine pounds for the rest of the world.
Printing and framing
As I mentioned before (probably a couple of times) and aim to produce a one shop stop for word art prints. A site where you can go and have a huge choice of designs for any occasion add words and have it printed and sent to you quickly.
I have secured a high-quality printer (as in printing company) that I have used for a number of years. A lot of word art designers just use their own printer to print out the designs. Nothing wrong with that but I aim to produce just a slightly better quality product.
Word Art App fonts
At the moment I plan to include 15 fonts in the app. This may change in future but at the moment I don’t want to include a huge selection of fonts as just think that will confuse people. Below is a list of fonts that I will include in the initial version of the word art app.
Franchise bold (default)
Impact
C794 Roman regular
PT Sans Regular
Typewriter
Kaushan Script regular
Headline one
Gouldy bookletter
Chrysanthi Regular
Times
Word Art App free
When I was researching wither to start this website it struck me there was a LOT of people that wanted to produce word art for free. Just to be clear this website is going to be for paid word art but I thought it may be fun and useful to help people that were looking to produce word art for free. A lot of people have seen word art and either don’t have the budget or are don’t want to spend the money.
So with that in mind, I’ve produced a quick video to show people how to do it for NO cost. Don’t get me wrong it is a time-consuming process but some people may think it is worth it.
There are actually three ways to produce word for free. I will outline the first two and have added a video for the third way as I mentioned before.
-
- The first way and probably the easiest is to go to wordart.com and create a free account. They will let you produce a low-resolution version of you your word in pretty quick time. The only thing I would say about this method is that as the image is low res you will only be able to use very small.
- The second way is probably better if you come from a design background. Download the free trial of InDesign software from Adobe and this is an excellent way to produce word art. I don’t really have time to go into great details with this method and there are loads of InDesign tutorials for free on YouTube
- The final method I’m going to explain with the use of a VERY quick video. It is only meant a rundown of the tools you will need to produce the designs. I’m sorry I don’t have time to do a full-blown tutorial.
Word Art App Prints FAQ:
For the last part of this blog post, I’m going to attempt to answer a few questions about the site. A few of the questions have been emailed to me and the others are ones I have come up with but didn’t think they deserved a bigger section. If you have any others please feel free to contact me and I will add them to this section.
Q: Do you sell prints on other website?
A: Yes we sell prints on Etsy: Please search for chalkandtrees.
Q: Is there a free version of this site?
A: No sorry there isn’t a totally free version. You can try out the app first before you buy and see if you would like to buy the design you have created.
Q: Do the prints get printed on paper or card?
A: We use a printing company to get the prints printed professionally. So this always means a high-quality print finish for the customers.
Q: Can there a way I can get the print quicker if I pay more?
A: At the moment we send out the prints as fast as possible. There really is no way to make this any quicker as we need to wait for the printer sending the prints back to us. This normally takes 2 days and we forward them to customers as soon as possible.
Q: Can I use a voucher I have found on the internet?
A: If you have a voucher, by all means, use it. We aim to be giving away vouchers on a regular basis. Watch out for pop messages on the site as will often add vouchers there.
Q: Do the prints come in a box or envelope?
A: If you purchase the framed version they will come in a box. If you purchase the unframed version it will come in a cardboard envelope.
Q: If my frame arrives broken can I get a replacement?
A: Of course if the frame arrives broken we will replace it as soon as possible. Please send an image of the broken item via the contact form on the website.
Q: Can I get a smaller version of the print for instance a5?
A: An A5 version of our prints simply wouldn’t work. The type would be too small to read.
Q: Can I get more than one copy of my print as want to give them to the family?
A: Yes certainly. If you purchase a print without a frame we often send extra copies out as a bonus.
Q: How do you send the prints out?
A: In the UK we send the prints 2nd class. If you are overseas we send by standard airmail and this normally means takes around 15 days on average.
Q: Where can I find all the templates for Word Art prints?
A: Most of the latest prints are found on the homepage of this website. They can also be searched by category. Please click here to be taken to homepage.
